A Brownsville mother is facing criminal charges after she left her five children home alone while she went to go eat dinner.

Brownsville police arrested 23-year-old Janerit Velez on child abandonment charges early Wednesday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that officers were called to a home on the 3600 block of Ramirez Lane around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Neighbors told police that five children, ranging in ages 2 to 8 years old, were left home alone.

Officers reported that they waited an hour before Velez showed up.

Velez allegedly told officers that she had only been gone for an hour to get something to eat but neighbors said she left at 9 p.m.

23 and she has 5 kids ranging from 2 to 8 years old. But noooo... According to the liberal 'rats we should accept and celebrate anything and everything.

Wrong. It is exactly this kind of lack of maturity and good judgement that you get with an anything goes attitude.

If the border still meant something, she could serve as a bad example somewhere else.

I’m not seeing the problem.

My left us home so she could go to work, run chores and occassionaly go out.

There were 5 of us.

My earliest recollection would be 1973, Nixon was being impacted..

My Mom had two jobs and we had chores.

If the kids can handle it what is the problem teaching responsibility and independence.

Oh, I was 10.

So where were HER parents? Why was she having sex, leaving her fatherless children to fend for themselves?
I've always thought that the FATHERLESS girls and boys were the ones who suffered the most. THAT is the top social problem of this country at this time.

Who taught you responsibility and independence if you were home, parentless, doing chores? Couldn't have been your mom, as she was never home with her two jobs.

My parents worked too. When my sister and I were young, we had to go to the neighbor across the street until they came home. When we got older (10 or so) we had chores. But the neighbor across the street still had to be contacted, at least, so my parents would know that we were home safe.

Times have changed. This was commonplace in the 60’s and 70’s. The oldest siblings were left with some pork chops thawing with instructions while mom and dad took the evening out, and we all lived to talk about it. The difference now is that the government owns everyone’s children, and the above ritual that millions endured is now a criminal offense.

This reminds me of that case (can’t remember details) a few years ago of the parents who left their four-year-old daughter in their hotel room while they went off for dinner, and returned to find her gone. Anyone remember that case? And why weren’t those parents charged with child endangerment?

Where did you grow up? I don’t remember any parents leaving 2-8 year old kids alone, much less five of them. Can’t imagine expecting the “oldest sibling” at 8 years of age to prepare dinner, especially using a stove.

Frankly, if the parent(s) can afford to go out to dinner, they can afford a babysitter.

This slut should be in prison, put to work to repay the state for the freebies she’s been getting. These “golden ticket” bastards are tomorrow’s murderers, as they grow up unloved and unwanted to simply line mommy’s pockets.

Without these bastards whole school districts would close; I believe these are the majority of our next generation.
