Starved and flea-covered German shepherd is rescued after being chained to a tree for FOUR YEARS... as heartless owner gets just a $25 fine

An Ohio pet owner has been arrested and slapped with a $25 fine after police rescued a starving, flea-invested and abused German shepherd that had been chained to a tree for four years. Jeremy Shane Temple was taken into custody last Friday from his Middletown home after officers and Butler County Dog Wardens responded to a report that pets were being mistreated at the residence. Officials discovered a mangy-looking and severely emaciated German shepherd dubbed by his owner Toby tethered to a tree in the backyard with only little food and water.

Heart-rending sight: Toby the German shepherd, later renamed Joseph, was found chained to a tree in his owner's backyard without food or water

When confronted by police about the pet's horrific living conditions, Mr Temple allegedly responded, 'the dog is not a human.' The suspect told investigators that he had the German shepherd for four years and usually kept him outdoors.

Temple attempted to explain away Toby's skeletal appearance by saying that during the summer months, the pooch normally shed a lot of weight. The malnourished pup covered in sores and tick bites was released into the care of the non-profit PAWS Adoption Center, where staffers renamed him Joseph in honor of the biblical character who was left for dead by his brothers, only to became a leader.

“Jeremy Shane Temple was taken into custody...”

He’s not a very big guy. Probably has issues related to that but can’t exactly take it out on other people. Hence the poor dog. He should move, now that people know about him.

I think this guy should be chained in the back yard with the fleas for a few years himself, just to suffer what the dog suffered.

I read recently that rescuers going in after disasters end up rescuing more animals than people, because people refuse to be rescued without their pets. As heartwarming as that is, we still have far too many scum like the guy in this story.

Thank you for your efforts.

No, dogs are NOT humans... sometimes, they’re clearly BETTER than the humans who are supposed to be caring for them.

I can’t remember a day in my life when I didn’t have at least one dog in my home.

I have three hounds now, and I lost my sweet 13-year old yellow Labbie back in January. She was a dear friend to me.

Nothing on this Earth compares to the loyalty and love that a pooch will show you.

People that mistreat dogs - or cats, for that matter - have some serious mental illness.

I agree.

If you don’t like dogs, why get a dog?

Poor pup. The owner is a sociopath.

Nah, I'm a sociopath and I have a couple rescue of dogs that are part of the family. In fact, I like them better than most folks I meet. I also feed the squirrels, leave a big fallow area in the back acre for wild rabbits and even leave leftovers out for the woodchucks. They LOVE spoiled fruit, BTW.

The guy in the story is just an evil POS.

The wife and I agreed a long time ago that we will never leave our pets if we get evacuated. They go with us or we stay put.
