Kaitlyn Hunt will stay in jail until mid-December.
A Florida teen accused of having sex with her underage girlfriend accepted a plea deal Thursday that her attorney says is in her best interest.
Kaitlyn Hunt, 19, pleaded no contest to battery, interference with child custody and contributing to the dependency of a child.
Hunt was charged in February with having sex with a 14-year-old female schoolmate. Hunt was 18 at the time. A previous plea deal was withdrawn in August following allegations that Hunt exchanged thousands of texts with the girl and sent her nude photos. A judge revoked her bond, sending her to jail. Prosecutors added a charge of transmitting material harmful to a minor.
Under the terms of Thursday's deal, Hunt will stay in jail until mid-December but won't have to register as a sex offender. She is prohibited from having contact with her girlfriend, faces probation and must perform 150 hours of community service.
Her attorney, A. Julia Graves, said in a letter to Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers that Hunt's goal after completing the conditions of her deal would be to work toward changing the law so that teens attending the same school can't be prosecuted for having sexual relationships, regardless of sexual orientation.
"Kaitlyn, her family, friends and supporters never want to see another teenager in this kind of situation," Graves said.
She has somebody high up in the political structure of Florida pulling strings on her behalf. My guess would be Pam Bondi.
“...150 hours of community service.”
...is this REALLY a good idea..?
“Guilty”
I’d hit it - with a rolled-up newspaper.
Not a thing. Maybe a date with Florida's attorney General.
“K.Hunt”
Clever.
Funny, if she hadn't been stalking this girl, she would have gotten away with her crimes. But now she wants to ensure that other predators can prey upon underaged kids with impunity.
There are exceptions in the law that would apply to students who are closer in age. I question if those exceptions are needed, to be honest, but certainly it needs no expansion. Eject all adult predators from schools.
So, child molesters can get a slap on the wrist if they cry “Homophobia!”
How do you have a 14 year old schoolmate when you're 19 years old? At 19 I was already out of school. At best, I was still friends with the class behind me, 17 and 18 year olds. The girl must have failed at least a few grades to be an adult in a child's class.
Roman Polanski needed a better rhyme than “Polanski”.
They want to expand that “exception” to include 14 year olds and 18/19 year olds if they go to the same school.
Yes.
That's what this entire circus of a court case has been about.
Sickening.
She was 18 when this started.
Stop The Rape! Jail Kate!
Enjoy.
Interesting that you fear God. How did you come by that concept? I doubt that many people would cite it just having read it.
>>She was lying about being a lesbian to get sympathy. Her mother said she always had tons of boyfriends.<<
So she swung both ways. So?
She’s a sexual predator. They should treat all these crimes the same. It’s a free pass for the gentler sex.
Every photo in that montage screams “crazy, stay away”.
