Meet Brendan Mahoney, the young man who is saving ObamaCare. He's 30 years old, a third-year law student at the University of Connecticut. He's actually been insured for the past three years--in 2011 and 2012 through a $2,400-a-year school-sponsored health plan, and this year through "a high-deductible, low-premium plan that cost about $39 a month through a UnitedHealthcare subsidiary." But he wanted to see what ObamaCare had to offer.
"Once it got running, it was fast," Mahoney tells the Courant. "It really made my day. It's a lot like TurboTax." He obtained insurance through ObamaCare. Now, he says, "if I get sick, I'll definitely go to the doctor." Even better, if he stays healthy, he won't need to go to a doctor, and his premiums will support chronically ill policyholders on the wrong side of 40.
So, how much of a premium is strapping young Brendan Mahoney paying to help make ObamaCare work? Oops. The Courant reports that Mahoney "said that by filling out the application online, he discovered he was eligible for Medicaid. So, beginning next year, he won't pay any premium at all."
So the great success story of ObamaCare's first day is the transformation of a future lawyer who was already paying for insurance into a welfare case.

A caller to Rush’s radio show just pointed out that once this guy starts to make big bucks as an attorney, his premiums, based on his income, will skyrocket under Obamacare.

Well it all sounds good to Brian right now but wait till Medicaid denies him treatment for cancer that is no longer called cancer. Or while on a vacation from his job as a full time slacker/student he contracts the new super bug-syphilis and goes to a doctor.
The doctor sends him for all kinds of tests and then puts him in the hospital for a week or two and pumps him full of all kinds of drugs that kinda slows it down.
Then he gets his bills. Finds out the Doctor he went to wasn’t a “particiapting Doctor” and Brian is now on the hook for every penny of all the cost.
Guess what Brian, the IRS will then OWN you for life. SUCKA!

I quickly read the article and I did not see what the deductible on his health insurance is. If I have a $6,000 deductible health insurance plan I am paying $500 per month plus the monthly premium. That is not free healthcare.
He should date Sandra Fluke, they’d make a cute couple.
In theory you’re right. In practice he’ll never get in to get any of those treatments due to lots of doctors retiring and thousands of subsidized LIVs making appointments for every sneeze and tickle they experience.
As I can attest, not all lawyers make a killing.
This isn’t a news story, and isn’t even as honest as an advertisement, so I suspect it was a planted story. And we should expect to see a LOT of planted stories in the near future. It’s called “propaganda”.
If that is the case, shame on the WSJ, and it strongly slashes their credibility as an objective source for news.
Remember that right now, NBC is planning a pro-Obamacare marathon, so don’t even say such propaganda is not happening.
Guy goes to college.
Works a few years to save up for law school.

Guy explores health insurance options and finds that, for the next half a year or so anyway, his student status with little or no income qualifies him for Medicaid.
Guy takes Medicaid option. You wouldn’t?
This is an example of FReepers getting in a rage about something they don’t need to be raging about. Attack the stupid system, not a guy doing what most of us used to value: School, work, personal responsibility, more school to get a job. (Granted, his chosen study is horrendous, but whatever.)

For some reason, I don’t think a 30 year-old single guy with no dependents is eligible for Medicaid unless he is disabled.
It’s Medicaid. He won’t have a deductible. And he’ll get all his incontinence supplies for free!
Well, isn’t his state lucky.
