NEW YORK (WABC) -- A small helicopter drone flying high above buildings on the East side of Manhattan crash landed just feet away from a businessman during the Monday evening rush hour.
Video he recovered from a memory card in the crash debris shows the drone twenty to thirty stories above the busy streets and crowded sidewalks near Grand Central Station.
The businessman reached out to Eyewitness News saying he thinks the 3-pound drone could have seriously injured him had he taken a direct hit.
He called police who took a look at the drone video, but did no further investigation because they said no law was broken.
The Eyewitness News Investigators is looking into this and will have more on the Manhattan drone tonight at 5:30 on Channel 7.

Smart guy to snag the card.
“He called police who took a look at the drone video, but did no further investigation because they said no law was broken.”
I wonder how different the result would have been if there were images of Police in the video. And how many citizens have been harassed by police for taking pictures in public with the excuse of it being a terrorism risk?
Hope he was even smarter, and copied it...
I hope he copied it, but better yet, he should not have gone to the police but instead gave it to an alternative news agency that would post it on the internet for everyone to see.
Yeah, but then he’d have to move to Moscow, comrade.
Probably a private R/C quad copter. Those along with R/C planes, webcams and let’s throw in geocaching will most likely be regulated or banned.
Was just speaking with my brother-in-law and his wife about this. I operate a webcam. It can be panned and tilted remotely over the net. Visitors can see our parking are, people coming and going, anything in range of the webcam.
B-I-L and his wife objected saying they didn’t want visitors to be able to see them sitting on our deck.
Good thing they didn’t know if the cam is at full left visitors can see into our living room from through the glass doors.
When I asked them when they took picture at the beach or in a park if they asked everyone nearby if it was ok they said it’s different.
Why? If it’s in a public area my view is it’s fair game.
BTW my cam and it’s related personal weather station automatically send pics and info to westherunderground where it is posted and archived.
My Gawd! Haven't y'all figured out that we live in the USSR. I would remind all to start reading Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn & see that passivity of this nation, which will result in the same outcome.
No $hit!

Unlikely anything special on the card.
I once hit myself in the head with one of my home made, 2 foot blade span ash boomerangs. NASTY, unconcious and lots of blood. It happened because it was twilight and the rang dropped below the tree line. I heard it hovering before it hit but stepped forward instead of ducking.
After I woke up I staggered to a neighbor’s house where a very pregnant mrs p6 was helping prepare something for a community event. She saw the blood, screamed and fainted. Luckily the neighbor was an RN, revived mrs p6 and got me patched up.
I still have a dent and mark in the middle of my forehead.
Oh, and I am not allowed to throw ‘rangs or show our grandkids how to make and throw them...sigh.
Silly me. Here I would be thinking “Hey, free quad!” and take it home. Why people are always wanting to involve the “authorities” is beyond me.
It was probably spying on that hot chick in Apt 79B.
That drone does not like that building.
Good question.
