My Dad, rest his soul, was a WWII vet of both theatres. He would go in a heartbeart and see this as a last campaign. God bless these vets they may be the first onslaught and I hope it gets tons of coverage. They answered the call once before and swore to defend our nation against all enemies foreign and domestic. I hope they flood Washington with all their offspring as backup. God Bless America!

National WWII Memorial

The National World War II Memorial was funded almost entirely by private contributions, as specified in Public Law 103-32. The campaign received more than $197 million in cash and pledges. Support came from hundreds of thousands of individual Americans, hundreds of corporations and foundations, veterans groups, dozens of civic, fraternal and professional organizations, states and one territory, and students in 1,200 schools across the country.

Donated and pledged funds were used to cover the total project costs of approximately $182 million. These costs include site selection and design, construction and sculpture, a National Park Service maintenance fee required by the Commemorative Works Act, groundbreaking and dedication ceremonies, fund raising, and the 11-year administrative costs of the project from its inception in 1993 through completion in 2004.

Bill Hemmer on FoxNews reported that some politicians tried to contact the White House about the barricades, and all they got was a pass-the-buck runaround. The WH blamed the Interior Department. The Interior Department blamed the Park Service.

Earlier this morning FoxNews reported that the Park Service would have police at the Memorial today.

It could get interesting. It could turn into an a serious confrontation, as a new group of Vets are arriving this morning. As Hemmer and others have said: It’s a sidewalk! It is an open-air facility. Bringing in barricades is costing the Park Service because they have to pay for this.

Obamagoons could use this as an incendiary event — never let a crises go to waste.

How can the government be putting up barricades if it’s shut down? Does that forklift run on pure evil instead of gasoline?

Our vets fought the Nazis and climbed Point du Hoc on D Day. And hundreds of other places.

They have these once in a lifetime trips to DC; and the President acts like a child and barricades open air monuments out of spite.

Amazing level of immaturity.

One other thing about the debates; is it conceivable for the debates to continue past the Oct 17 debt ceiling deadline? Could the House GOP simply say they are gonna ignore that deadline or would they still be obligated to end the shutdown one way or the other by Oct 17? Is it an option for them to say they are gonna just keep going past that date and totally ignore the debt ceiling deadline?

Honey, Obama’s acting out again. We need to ground him, put him on the Naughty Step for a timeout, and maybe send him to bed without his dinner.

This memorial was built with mostly private donations! I want to know when this ass is closing down the abortion facilities that receive federal funding!

I was shocked when I heard of this yesterday. Why would you close up an open-air monument?

I ask this also because virtually never is there any authority at these places anyway. My husband and I spent part of our anniversary last year at the WWII Mem, and it was Memorial weekend. Very busy, but even then almost no personnel. Never mind the other monuments.

It’s ludicrous something out in the open is fenced off.

Gee, I wonder if our lovely gov will barricade the nice little WWII memorial in Annapolis. It’s wide-open to the elements too.

If all government buildings are shut down, why is the Obama family still in the White House?

Why don’t they just save the time and expense if blocking everything off? Makes sense in a shutdown not to spend.
