GOP Staffer on Vitter Amendment: "Congress Literally Threw Staff Under The Bus"

(UNNAMED) GOP Staffer on Vitter Amendment: "Congress Literally Threw Staff Under The Bus"

The latest Republican assault on Obamacare involves jacking up health insurance costs for members of Congress and their staffers. That has some GOP aides upset.

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Florida), is of the same mind: "If you're going to stick pins in a voodoo doll, the doll shouldn't be people who work for you."

Vitter's office did not respond to a request for comment. Nor did McCaul's.

Jacking up health care costs for low-paid aides is not only mean; it could cause brain drain on the Hill. Staffers "are not living large," Zelizer says. "If you take away essentials and make basic things like health care much harder for them, it will lead them to go into the private sector."

The GOP staffer agrees. "You need to make X number of dollars," he says. A recent survey found that 63 percent of Hill staffers want to leave their jobs because of the low pay and long hours. And that's before losing health insurance benefits.

If you don’t like your staffers having to pay more for health insurance under Obamacare, just repeal it for everyone including your staffers. Problem solved.

BS Vitter! If it’s wonderful for us, you and your staff shouldn’t mind. Maybe some budget constraints would force you to fire someone, just like in the real world.

F the staffers. It’s not like most of them and their bosses are contributing anything useful to society.

If you could exempt the staff of only those congressmen who voted against it, I’d be OK with it. Since you can’t, this is only right. If congress wants to saddle the rest of us with this, they should have to live by it too. Including using the same exchanges as the rest of us.

We didn’t ask for this; our betters thought they could foist this on us and not have to live by it themselves. Unions supported it as long as they were exempt themselves. Democrats in general are all for it as long as they don’t have to be part of it or pay for it. They were told it would be free. They didn’t know they were going to lose their health care and see the costs triple.

If zerocare is so great, then the elected officials should lead by example and be the first ones on it.
They and their staff.
And if it costs them more, then it shows the bill is bad law.
But that is too advanced of a thought for them.

Yeah, this isn't like sticking it to the country, nosirree, these are important people! If we can't make exceptions for the Ruling Class, the entire country is going to hell. Homeless people are begging, "we don't mind dying of common diseases on the street but PLEASE don't make my Congressman's aides take a pay cut!"

Yep, these are Special People and we should be grateful they take our money for all that they do. What is that exactly, by the way?

I don’t understand. If the staffers are that poor, won’t they still get the same subsidies all the other poor people are going to get?

Here comes the victim train! We need a separate thread to keep track of all the “victims” of a govt shutdown. The Dems will create as many as possible and the MSM will give them air time.
