Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said Congress should try to avoid a government shutdown, but if Congress fails to reach an agreement over the next three days, then the shuttering of government would not hurt Republicans.

Only if DeLay was still Speaker and not Boehner...
Why every democrat on TV looks so grim saying “shutdown will hurt the republicans”?
I would think there would be a twinkle in their eyes and a smile on their face. Why are the democrats so worried about shutdown hurting the GOP?? Something does not compute.
If only Delay were Speaker, now. He'd be knocking Bamm's and Dingy's arses to the floor, repeatedly.
On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:
FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;
SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
THIRD, cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;
FIFTH, ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
SIXTH, require committee meetings to be open to the public;
SEVENTH, require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase; EIGHTH, guarantee an honest accounting of our Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting.
I wonder just how many democrats would actually vote republican if the republicans give in to the democrats?
How about none?
On the other hand, how many republicans will give up voting for the republicans if the republicans give in to the democrats?
How about millions...
.
To a large part it depends on those of us who appreciate the importance of doing away with Obamacare and our willingness to broadcast far and wide that it is the Democrats and White House who proclaimed no negotiations and ranted and raved at those who were taking corrective action trying to save the nation. What are we conservatives going to do in order to bring a victory next year?? Oh, I know - we won’t vote - again!!!
You do know the difference between thoroughbreds and donkeys, don’t you?? Faced with attacking jackals, the thoroughbreds circle up heads inward, and kick outward at the enemy. Donkeys also circle up but face outward towards their adversaries and proceed to kick - backward - to kick each other. That is how we lost in 2008.
He’s right. The Democrats, their clientele slurping at the trough, and trinket sellers at the Statue of Liberty are the only ones worried. They are afraid that no one will miss them, that the sun will rise on schedule tomorrow morning, and the sky will still be there.
How sweet would it be if Tom was truly back!
DeLay was newt’s whip.
I have to agree with him.
And I would not open it back up until there was an actual budget, not just an agreed upon CR on a budget that doesn’t exist.
I hope we see and hear a lot more from Delay now.
Yes, he was....and hammer ;-)
Scooter Libby.
I don't put much confidence in the DC ruling class, but it would warm my heart to see a pubbie MF’er stick it to the rats, to make lawfare on them, to destroy a few of their lives and families.
He was majority whip and he hit the naysayers so hard that they called him “The Hammer”. He would have already defeated reid and piglosi and obama would have been exposed. The dims knew his strength and took him out. He finally proved his innocence this week.
The Hammer speaks....those were the days...good times, good times.
Delay’s MO was to put those limp spine sissy republicans in a vise and make them do the right thing. The trumped up charges worked because both rats and GOPe wanted him gone.
He’s right. If I were part of the GOP Senate or House, I’d say go ahead and shut it down, Dims. This is YOUR fault and I’d shout it from the mountaintops.
