that is just not how the military mind is wired, they will do above and beyond what is expected or demanded of them, and they will find a way to take care of their own

When they did this in 1978, the flights and med care for congressmen and senators was quietly shut down, congressional wives were turned away at the door and told to seek care elsewhere because there was no funding to cover them. There was also no funding for boondogle flights for congressmen. In a couple of cases where the “rulers” tried to force the question, aircrews and hospital staff called in sick. Commanders at the time were behind it; now, who knows. It worked and within two days the self-serving bastards restored all pay and funding.
