He betrayed the U.S. by signing up with Al Qaeda, but this homegrown terror-abettor from Brooklyn is claiming that his country owes him an apology.
Wesam El-Hanafi, 38, an Egyptian-American computer whiz and Baruch College alum, is due to be sentenced for providing support to Al Qaeda.
But the Brooklyn-born basketball fan is simultaneously suing the U.S., arguing that mistreatment after his detention led to a deadly medical condition. El-Hanafi suffers from deep-vein thrombosis; he has blood clots in his right leg, the suit says.
He has trouble walking. He has constant pain, said lawyer Jake Harper, who filed the civil rights lawsuit for El-Hanafi in Manhattan federal court.
El-Hanafi is asking to be sentenced to just five years in prison, despite a plea deal that recommends up to 20, and his lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
He claims that after surrendering to U.S. authorities in 2010 in Dubai, where he was working, his legs were shackled for three days and four nights.
Then he was taken by plane to the U.S. by FBI agents who denied him the use of his legs during the 14-hour flight, except for 15 minutes to pray and use the bathroom, his suit states. That was when his symptoms began.

Well then they should have let him get off that 14 hour flight in mid-air.
How about a 9mm brain aneurism instead?
Lead poisoning would have been better and saved the taxpayers some money.
A deadly medical condition? I see no proof yet that his condition is deadly. Let's explore that more after he proves it. He should be suffering from a condition called rigamortis. I hear that can be uncomfortable for the living.
It’s the will of Allah.
You only get fourteen ugly virgins if your martyrdom is from deep vein thrombosis.
Okay.
Here is my sincere apology to Wesam El-Hanafi -- I am sincerely sorry you are still alive, Mr. El-Hanafi.
well, here we are supposed to have sympathy for someone who would cut our heads off if given the chance. okay.....................
Too bad it didn’t progress into a pulmonary embolism.
