I’m not sure the plane went down, or was hit by a MANPAD. From what I can tell, it may have been struck by AAA but the pilot was able to continue flying it for some distance.

Almost looks like afterburner.I don't know what an SU-22 looks like on afterburner but whatever is coming out of the tailpipe is a hot flame without smoke suggesting the engine is still producing thrust and fuel is passing through in a somewhat controlled manner.
I didn't see evidence of a MANPAD strike or of large bore AAA. Looks like a malfunction, small/minor AAA hit, or as you suggested, afterburner.

Looks like he popped flares, lit the afterburner, and got the heck out of there. I don’t think it was a shoot-down.

(This is not a statement of fact. It is either opinion or satire; or both.)

I am sure you saw the whole video and did not simply rely on the second video comment?

I watched the whole video. It even looks like at the end that the jet throttles back and the flame out the tail pipe is reduced. Not a shoot-down and no man-pads IMHO.

I agree... most likely just sh!tty russian engines digesting itself

Tell me? Are the ‘un-accounted-for’ manpads a real or made-up threat?

At 0:23 on the video it shows an explosion on the ground. I am assuming they think it was a plane crashing. I have my doubts. More like a bomb was dropped. Plane got away without a problem.

Am talking about the alleged shoot-down. The "manpads" are another matter altogether - sorry for confusing you with my vague post.

Not AB’s. May have taken a small arms fire. AB’s taper and rings can be seen in the exhaust area. Even in old jets. Question that needs to be answered is; If I am coming in hot to an area that only has small arms fire, why would I pop flares? Does their intelligence say there is something else there? Possibly shoulder fired anti-aircraft missles? Just a thing to make you go hhhmmmmm.

If the plane was malfunctioning, or was hit by small AA, the pilot was still able to maintain control for the duration of the video which probably enabled him to get over friendly territory.
