Lower Health Insurance Premiums to Come at Cost of Fewer Choices
NY Times ^ | Sept 22, 2013 | By Robert Pear

WASHINGTON — Federal officials often say that health insurance will cost consumers less than expected under President Obama’s health care law. But they rarely mention one big reason: many insurers are significantly limiting the choices of doctors and hospitals available to consumers.

From California to Illinois to New Hampshire, and in many states in between, insurers are driving down premiums by restricting the number of providers who will treat patients in their new health plans.

When insurance marketplaces open on Oct. 1, most of those shopping for coverage will be low- and moderate-income people for whom price is paramount. To hold down costs, insurers say, they have created smaller networks of doctors and hospitals than are typically found in commercial insurance. And those health care providers will, in many cases, be paid less than what they have been receiving from commercial insurers.

Some consumer advocates and health care providers are increasingly concerned. Decades of experience with Medicaid, the program for low-income people, show that having an insurance card does not guarantee access to specialists or other providers.

Consumers should be prepared for “much tighter, narrower networks” of doctors and hospitals, said Adam M. Linker, a health policy analyst at the North Carolina Justice Center, a statewide advocacy group.

Wonder how people will like the $10,000 deductible they will have with that cheap mandatory health insurance?

According to the Georgia Insurance Commissioner, a single guy in his 30s currently pays around $43 a month. Next year, that’s 3 months from now, it will go up to $108 a month. I don’t see how someone working at McDonald’s can afford that.

Correctamundo! Fewer choices, fewer doctors, less care, death panels, rationing, the IRS looking up you ass, er, name and address rather than your doctor AND higher, MUCH higher costs!! And less freedom everywhere. Fewer jobs, fewer hours, less productivity, less work, less pay and with the now unlimited government snooping and controlling every little aspect of our lives.

Scarcity is the regular status of this world. Shortages are government created. Obamacare is creating a shortage.

It won’t be cheaper. It won’t be better.

Spent time today with my doc talking about this.

He said it’s already horrible, he has no idea what will happen. He’s already gotten visits from the Obama Nazis, who were armed with orders signed by Obama. He said they basically spent the day giving him and his office a proctology exam. He said there are over 100K new insurance codes. He is NOT happy.

As for us, we have been notified that our cancellation letter is coming. They are pushing people off the premium PPO’s onto standard , or HMO’s, and it will cost the same PLUS an extra 2% “ACA fee”.

I mean, there is an extra ACA fee attached to all the premiums. Never heard about that from Obama!

That isn’t true.

If anyone wants to see some estimated premiums in the California Exchange, you can fill in income and family details here:

http://www.coveredca.com/calculating_the_cost.html

It give you the estimated monthly silver plan premium.

I don’t line in CA but it turned out this calculator gave some pretty good estimates for my own state, whose calculator came out a bit later.

They can’t. The deal is people making lower wages like the gift they get from the fed as a “tax return”. They will no longer get the gift from Uncle Sam they have given with no interest.
May make peopl wise up and claim 10 dependants so the gov takes out less money each week.
There is no enforcement in obamacare right now. Later there will be.

Oh the MSM are out there already cherry picking examples of how much people will save. They are making no effort to address the under 50 crowd that is healthy and won’t buy the insurance. The other thing they are not addressing is the cost and subsequent rises in rates that will take place as soon as the insurance companies get into it for a year or so. And finally, doctors will simply not accept the reimbursement rates and refuse to take many people.
