704 people have no idea what the word “incite” means.
poll ping
Murderers are a little complex. See what kind of drugs he was on (for real) and also see how many Muslim friends he had.
duhhhhh!!
These games de-sensitizes people to violence and glorifies it as well.
Does the military spend millions of dollars every year on ‘realistic’ video based combat training every year to make sure that new recruits will actually fire their weapon the first time an enemy human being is in their sights?
Almost seems like they know something.
It’s so funny how here on a site where people no better than to blame guns for violence people love to blame video games for it. It shows how addictive the victim mentality is, people want to blame everything but the actual person who did the deed. Nothing incites violence. Violent people PERFORM violence all by themselves without anybody or anything forcing it upon them.
Some people just to stupid or crazy to know the difference between real and digital death.
Constitutionally I can’t see it being banned any more than guns.
Perhaps the answer is institutionalizing known psychos. Someone who is a known danger to society. Jus look at the Arizona/Colorado/Connecticut gunmen. I mean there faces SCREAM to be put away.
I never understood why this was an issue to be asked about. Not knocking you South40, you’re just relaying the poll. But if I watch Buggs Bunny blast Daffy in the beak with a shotgun, will that somehow push me over the edge where I want to shoot someone to see if I can rearrange their lips to the top of their head? If I’m already nuts, maybe.
Some people understand the fantasy that video games, music, and movies allow is just that, a fantasy world, while others take it as a gospel that must be delivered. Blaming, or asking if all the world’s ills fall on playing video games, listening to music, believing in advertising, etc., is just ludicrous. Some people are bat crap crazy whether they play games, watch horror movies, or do neither.
I say no, they desensitize people to violence but that is not the same as incitement. As was once said on the influence of video games, if gamers always tried to emulate them, in the 80s they would have been running around mazes munching on yellow dots and fruit while hiding from ghosts.
No.
Part of the problem is people pulling triggers and not seeing anything happen as a result. Even if a kid fires a real gun into a tree, he can see wood being chipped out of the tree and form a good mental idea that anything living standing where the tree was would have been badly hurt. Seeing the same thing happen on a video screen somehow or other does not achieve the same effect.
If visual entertainment doesn’t influence behavior why do companies advertise on TV?
Did watching western movies and tv shows in the 50s along with Dragnet, Highway Patrol, comic books, Rat Patrol, Alfred Hitchcock and playing cops and robbers or cowboys and indians with toy guns cause all of us old folks to become desentized?
Get a grip! There were serial murders and shocking multiple murders back then but the media was not a prevalent.
Some people are always going to be evil, souless, murdering scum and you’re not going to find any one reason why; they just are.
No...
Violent acts come from violent people...They can find inspiration for their behavior in a rainbow.
It’s an invalid question designed to elicit a response.
The question should be “Do games like GTA influence people to commit violence?”.
For the weak minded, yes.
Do violent games like Grand Theft Auto V incite violence?
Yes 47% (789)
No 38% (634)
Impossible to tell 13% (226)

..... I think the answer to this does not stand with the video games alone.
...... Games may trigger certain responses and actions in a small minority of individuals. But the games alone don't do it. I believe there is a lethal concoction of events that leads to violent behavior associated with these games.
..... I really think it should also be noted that there is a large contingent of children that are misdiagnosed with ADD. If I recall correctly I believe the percentage of diagnosis is around 40% when the actual occurrence is around 3 - 5% among children. Often times a parent will consult with a doctor about the child's behavioral problems which of course could not be a result of a lack of discipline could it? < sarcasm > The Dr. then starts a prescription of meds that miraculously keeps the child's emotions from surfacing as much as they were. Heck .... it's like a miracle to the parent!
.... While under the care of their parents the children are then raised through their entire life using meds to subdue natural emotions which are not properly dealt with in the standard social and mental way. As the child grows into puberty and then adulthood the hormonal changes as well as much more complex issues of teen and adult life begin to surface in their life. However .... they have not had the opportunity to deal with even the simplest emotions thus far and it is now too late to begin doing so without proper supervision. They are now in the unenviable position of having to take the meds for the rest of their lives. To not do so will result in a massive rush of emotions that they have not had to deal with before because the meds have subdued them!!!
During these times the child may also be involved with playing the aforementioned violent video games which may be also .... the only social life that some of these children know. You've heard it before ..... He was a quiet young man that lived with his mother .... he loved his video games and kept to himself.
..... Then he decides to stop taking those stupid meds .... and his game play gets much more exciting ..... emotions are cascading into his mind in a way he hasn't felt before .........
Game Over.
