Nearly 50 years after his plane was shot down over Cambodia in October 1964, the remains of a Fort Campbell soldier have finally been identified, according to his family. Lisa Szymanski of Fort Myers, Fla., said officials with the Past Conflict Repatriations Branch at Fort Knox, Ky., notified her on Tuesday that remains found at a crash site are those of her father, Staff Sgt. Lawrence Woods. Fort Knox spokesman Bill Costello told The Associated Press that officials contacted Szymanski, but the identification won't be official until the family is briefed. Woods was a member of the 5th Special Forces Group based at Fort Campbell, Ky., when he shipped out to Vietnam in 1963.

welcome home.
Staff Sgt. Lawrence Woods stand at ease. Welcome home soldier and thank you for your service and your sacrifice.
Amen
October 1964, would mean LBJ was president, and he had spec ops flying over and maybe into Cambodia.
Bless our fallen warriors, who died due to LBJ’s meddling.
Small side note
“....On Sept. 21, 1961 at Fort Bragg, N.C., the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) was officially activated. Just one year later, elements of the 5th Special Forces Group began serving temporary duty tours in the Republic of Vietnam. Full deployment of the Group was completed in February 1965.....”
The 5th SFG(A) was stationed at Ft Bragg, NC prior to full deployment to VN in 1965. The Colors returned to Ft Bragg on 03/05/1971.
The 5th SFG(A) moved to Ft Campbell, KY on 06/10/1988.
I’m happy for the family’s sake. I hope it lifts a burden from their hearts.
I wonder what our people were doing over Cambodia in ‘63? Everyone knows we weren’t really there (wink, nudge), don’t they? More lies from the gov’t.
I knew a guy some years ago who was with a UDT up the Mekong in Laos in the early ‘60s who was very bitter because he wasn’t eligible for any Vietnam war benefits because we “weren’t there” in those days.
John NVA Kerry can tell you about Christmas in Cambodia.
I wonder what our people were doing over Cambodia in 63?
Maybe we should ask John Kerry?
Oh, wait that was before his time.
He served in Vietnam don’t ya know.
