New Species of Legless Lizard Found at LAX
Discovery ^ | 9/18/13 | JENNIFER VIEGAS

A bustling airport would hardly seem the place to find a new species of reclusive animal, but a team of California biologists recently found a shy new species of legless lizard living at the end of a runway at Los Angeles International Airport.

What’s more, the same team discovered three additional new species of these distinctive, snake-like lizards that are also living in some inhospitable-sounding places for wildlife: at a vacant lot in downtown Bakersfield, among oil derricks in the lower San Joaquin Valley and on the margins of the Mojave desert.

Better close it down. All that plane noise interferes with their mating calls...or something.

Thanks for bringing this all-important life alert to our attention.

While the “Greenies” bemoan the impact of Man On Nature, we now find that Nature has found our impact to be a haven for the less fortunate lizards that are threatened by their natural enemies.

Where else could leg-impaired lizards go to escape their natural enemies than to secure places of refuge created by the stewardship minds and caring hands of Men?

Over 150 years after the heroic saving of the World’s Whales from extinction by the swift action of the Oil and Gas Industry, we can now boast of providing santuary for leg-challenged lizards at noisy airfields that would not exist without the untiring efforts by the Oil and Gas Industry.

Oil and Gas, the gift that keeps on giving.

I find legless lizards in my yard all the time while pulling weeds and such. They just slither away and find a new hole to hide in. My wife thinks they are snakes and kills them, but they eat mole crickets and other insects that are detrimental........

Someone send the kooks to camp out in Jerry Brown’s office until he addresses these poor animal’s plight.

And where the HELL is Obama’s executive order shutting down the runways until a thorough study can be done?
