Necessarily depressing. Mark Steyn is a prophet, of sorts and this piece is brilliantly written. America spirals into second-class status and history will debate whether Obama planned it this way or simply blundered us into irrelevancy. FReepers know very well that it was the former but many will assign our demise to simple ineptness on Obama’s part and - this part will be factual - apathy on the part of a large portion of American citizens too easily distracted by ‘celebrity’ rubbish, professional sports and other entertainments offered up - and greatfully received - by the (willfully) ‘low information’ masses.

Mark Steyn is a poet and his writing is brilliant and satirical. His irreverence toward silly leaders and his use of allusions to history are often hilarious
Prophetic is premature. This negativism and doom may be warranted in terms of eventual outcome, however, we do not know yet.
We have our Constitution and the good will of many educated people.
Voter fraud and pay down of debt will have to be overcome. But we are not empirical Our leases are interested in power position and over abundance of personal cash but the philosophy of our country is not
I don’t expect WWII just because. And we don’t know what the outcome will be. Our problem does not necessarily stem from greed of land and power but could well be from moral depravity resulting from licentiousness against personal dignity and order brought on by the anonymity of technology and the resultant sexual revolution
Were not necessarily the same as Austria though the similarities he points out are brilliant
Pray for strong and moral leadership and for our children and we’ll see how this turns out
