Sen. Ted Cruz at Midland voter registration event: The US needs to get back on track

Midland County Republicans held a voter registration rally Saturday to mobilize the Hispanic community and highlight their common values: faith, family and economic prosperity.

During the second annual "Despierta Tu Voz," or "Wake Up Your Voice" event, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz called on Midlanders to get more involved in the political process and laid out steps to get the country back on track, including reigning in debt and spending, simplifying the tax code, reforming regulations and defunding Obamacare.

"Economic growth is foundational to every other challenge," he told a large group at Centennial Plaza while cracking a few jokes. "I don't have to tell Midlanders about economic growth. Anyone who tries to get a hotel room in Midland understands economic growth."

Cruz said early frontier principles -- a horse, gun, open plain and "I can conquer the world" spirit -- are what made this nation so strong.

"If we could take West Texas values to Washington, it could turn this whole country around," he said.

Imagine that. A U.S. Senator reaching out to Hispanic voters with a message of opportunity and independence for all rather than dependency on government. How dare he.

I don’t take the word or bloviating pronouncements of any politician seriously anymore. He appears (on the surface) to be serious but he doesn’t complete the point of “The US needs to get back on track). That sentence needs to be finished with “...by electing representatives who will be true representatives of the will of the people and not just say all of the right things to be elected. We have a house and senate full of those liars, cheats, and self-serving assholes. Right now Cruz is speaking mostly in generalities and not specifics of what we all have to do to make it happen. I have hope for him but I’m sure that something will be said or come up, maybe some democrat lie, that will be accepted by the “conservative” masses and he will be out. There is no Mr/Ms perfect candidate and our current crop is proof of that. We’ll see.

God has blessed America but also blessed us with minds and hands to do the job and maintain those blessings. If you are expecting a miracle candidate to be delivered on high who is perfect then you are lost in your fantasies.

Well, you might want to check his record of defending the constitution as Texas Solicitor General. I also have high hopes for him. I believe he knows what he’s talking about.

I’ve looked at his Texas record. That is Texas and a generally receptive audience. State officials can be run out by the populace if they don’t represent the people. I have not heard enough of the really hard pushing on democrats or worthless GOP national representatives. I don’t believe in polite debate or bipartisanship. The GOP doesn’t have the gonads to make that work and they certainly have no stones for any kind of real confrontation. Cruz’s denunciation of Reid’s thug threats on backing obamacare were great but it can’t be left at that. It needs to be brought up every day in every venue to build support for any push back. Again, we’ll see. I’m more concerned that he will truly be the right person but that conservatives (I don’t even consider the GOP establishment) will back away from him for some stupid and obscure reason or disagreement with one of their “principles”. We’ve seen that happen too many times in recent years. Too many out there will not even vote for a candidate if he/she is not completely in line with their particular or favorite belief on a specific issue.

Well, I’m with Cruz for now unless he goes south on us. He appears to be the strongest conservative showing any interest at all in running.

I’ll go with him too, but that “going south on us” is exactly what I was talking about. There are as many interpretations of “going south” as there are true conservatives. At some point in time everyone who cares about the Republic and the Constitution needs to come together and get or stay behind a overall good candidate WITH any warts or disagreements about personal interpretations of issues. Otherwise, we leave it to the RINO-democrat leadership to annoint another losing candidate.

How many times have we seen the RINO’s flush one of their own over minor issues of morality or character, while the Demos quickly circle their wagons on the most egrigious and vile sicko their ideology can spawn.

GOP need to grow some steel in their spines and Teflon on their hides.

That is not going to happen as a whole in either the house or senate. The only way to get close to that ideal situation if for all of us in all of the states to do everything possible to elect those types to all levels of government. We need representatives, not idiots who talk a good line and look good doing it. Executive hair does not mean good representation. Too many times those who have the steel spines are cast aside for not meeting each and every conservative’s issue expectations.

>>>We’ve seen that happen too many times in recent years. Too many out there will not even vote for a candidate if he/she is not completely in line with their particular or favorite belief on a specific issue.>>>

Which is why no politician can, at this early date, get any more specific. First, he has to line up backers, THEN we want specifics.

That hasn’t worked very well either. As soon as they get strong backing the democrats and RINO/GOPe take out the knives and carve them up while too many of the conservative base will back off support because maybe he/she “isn’t what I envisioned”. They never get to specifics and the conservative base isn’t fired up enough behind them (or haven’t the stomach) to fight for them and maybe overlook minor flaws or disagreements. Get specific and hardcore early and often on the issues and lay out a cogent plan of action that makes sense. The democrats do this all of the time and they’ve shown it works. They have to also specifically address those whose single issue principles get in the way of support. Win them over with why, despite differences, they are the best candidate over any democrat or RINO. Don’t be afraid to trash the democrats and the kenyan dicatator. They’ll call us racists anyway so why bother to accomodate them. Don’t be afraid to aggressively trash and run out the RINOs and GOPe either. A winning race car does not start slow and then pour it on when they’ve caught up with half of the other drivers. Strike early, strike hard, strike often and strike each time as if your life depended on it because our life under the Constitution and as a Republic depends on it.
