Confronted by an agitated man who at one point lay down in the middle of a crowded intersection in Times Square, two police officers fired shots late Saturday evening at the man, striking two bystanders instead, the police said.

After what Bloomberg tried to pull in Colorado, the NRA should step in here and offer free matksmanship training to the NY PD.
They should point out how much Bloomberg spent in Colorado while his own police department lacks marksmanship skills and can’t even shoot straight.
Attempted Suicide by Police? Or just plain crazy high on drugs?
A Horribly written article.
Stupid criminal, stupid police and stupid writer. Par for NYC.
Armed with a “hand” gun.

Unless there’s a massacre in progress, opening fire in Times Square is sheer lunacy. The density of civilians milling around at any given time would make hitting bystanders a certainty.
Remember when London bobbies did not carry guns? That’s how it ought to be in America. We must fundamentally transform our country to be more European, or we’re not broadminded and cool </sarc off>
Excellent.
Note to self: Do not take a tourist trip to NYC any time soon.
Maybe they should carry "TIME OUT" cards to pass out.
On the other side of the card they could put a coupon for a free donut.
So...what about the good ol taser they've all fallen in love with? How’z bout the age old backup...pepper spray? Even more age old night stick?
Protect and serve?
My Daddy taught me when I was 12 not to shoot if something was in the background that I shouldn’t be shooting at. I taught that to my son and he is teaching it to his daughter.
Yet the Government wants to arm police with machine guns and tanks, and leave me without a weapon.
Agreed.
Shows their lack of situational awareness as well as their poor marksmanship.
This might help explain why NY Liberals have such a fear of guns - they rarely, if ever, see them used in a responsible way.

Damn, I’m glad you added that.
Remember the last time the NYPD went on a shooting spree and wounded a whole bunch of people?
It sounds like they need to issue their cops billy clubs.
1. All cops to only carry revolvers.
2. Junior members; birdshot first FOUR cylinders.
3. After five years and many test birdshot first TWO cylinders. Note: Five years training to be a plumber!
4. Senior Officers birdshot first FOUR cylinders.

Venturer.....I want you on my team!
On a side note. When the swat team shot to death that 107yr old man, they reported that before entry, swat members deployed a distraction device.
Even the media won’t report this as a flash bang GRENADE.
Besides, couldn’t they just hold out till 8:30pm, surely he’d been getting close to bedtime.
Here is a news report down here in Montgomery co. Texas. Look at the officers standing behind the newly deployed surveillance drone in our county. Notice the armored vehicle, advanced kevlar, automatic weapons, grenades.
This looks like military to me.

About 2 weeks ago I had a conversation with a family member as to why I would not go back to NYC for any reason. I gave two main reasons. One was arbitrary street violence from what I diplomatically call “Obama’s sons”, and lo and behold, a man was killed just last week from just such a mindless, violent incident.
The other reason I gave was that I didn’t want to be in the crossfire from increasingly trigger-happy cops, as in the Empire State Building incident not long ago.
That family member is probably wondering how I knew, after these two incidents immediately follow in the headline news. I’ve been wondering how they can’t see it, it’s so obvious to me - “get the hell out of the cities before they go completely feral” is one of the easier conclusions I’ve been able to come to over the years.
