It is funny that you say that. The incident where President George H. W. Bush shot a rat in the swimming pool on the South Lawn using a pistol from one of his secret service agents is one of Barbara Bush's favorite stories about her husband. I first read about it in a book about favorite stories from first ladies. When the story was picked up by the news media at the time... they did say that he “drowned” the rat. My guess would be that even at that time the media didn't want to report on anything that portrayed firearms in a positive way.
President George H W Bush grew up during the depression and was a torpedo bomber pilot who flew off of aircraft carriers during WWII. Despite serious injuries... he survived being shot down in the Pacific. Diving at ships with anti-aircraft guns firing straight in your face and then releasing your bombs at the very last second would have to be counted as one of the gutsiest jobs ever devised by the military. That is not even to mention that as a pilot of everything from hang gliders to general aviation airplanes I know that WWII aircraft carriers were very challenging to just land on.
There are aspects about his policies and politics that I wasn't fond of, but President George Bush Sr. is a very humble and decent man who refuses to tell self aggrandizing stories about himself. But if you don't think that he was capable of shooting a rat with a hand gun... I personally find that amusing. Rick Perry and Sarah Palin are two of my favorite politicians but I doubt whether either has ever been tested the way George H W Bush has been. It is funny the way that even those of us who are conservatives have our perception slanted by a biased media.
He’s slouched beyond that ‘sucker’ stage in his life.
Pestilence follows this man everywhere he goes. Think of it as God’s way of letting us know just who he is. To bad so many are willfully blind to it.
