What? Did they just see the Terminator movie? This took some of Britain’s greatest minds to come up with? I have to ask, have they ever heard the words Science Fiction?

Well, color me a bit skeptical. It was a scientific consensus from precisely this sort of community that the U.S. and the Soviet Union would destroy the world in a nuclear holocaust. I believe Douglas Hofstadter, who I otherwise love to read, calculated it at no less than 85%. Perhaps we got lucky. Perhaps his model was full of crap.
Nevertheless, the most likely source of our world ending is something we don't see coming. Something so unlikely we can't possibly foresee it, something so drastic it will require a fundamental rethinking of everything we know. The Mariners winning a World Series, for example.

The world will end when the ego stops projecting it. It is all an illusion. Get used to it. Ask only that the ego be undone. What you may be saying in jest, is actually true ... and if you meant it, then you are quite spiritually advanced.
How do you like me so far?
You probably know darned well that simply doesn't matter. :)

The Mariners winning a World Series, for example. I was with you nodding my head affirmatively until that little nugget. The Mariners...world champs...not only unexpected it's thoroughly imponderable. And probably too absurd and indeed woeful for even Hawkings to envision.

Regardless the eventual scenario, and assuming I’m still alive by then, I just wanna take some of the bastards out before they get me.

I don’t think this is the ideal time to live. I loved the 1950s, growing up, but maybe that was just youthful exuberance and anticipation of what may come. So maybe the future holds good as well as bad for the human race. If, as some predict, we colonize throughout space, our chances of ultimate survival are vastly increased.

Hawking: Killer robots and crippling cyber attacks: How the world is going to end None of the above.
Some time in the future the sun will expand. That will be the end of the world.
Everything else is pure imagination or egotism.
Despite what Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote, we are not the world.
