North Korea appears to have restarted plutonium reactor

Commercial satellite images taken in recent months had indicated preparations for restarting the reactor were progressing rapidly. In June, the institute predicted the reactor could be up and running by the end of August, depending on the availability of fresh fuel rods to power it.

The reactor can be used both to generate electricity and produce fissile material for nuclear weapons, and once it is operating, can produce about 6 kilograms of plutonium a year — enough for one or two bombs. Experts estimate North Korea already has enough plutonium for between four to eight crude weapons.

"The reactor restart fits a pattern of continued expansion of North Korea's WMD programs short of conducting outright nuclear and missile tests," said Joel Wit, a former State Department official and editor of 38 North. WMD stands for weapons of mass destruction.

"An operating reactor will enable Pyongyang to renew the production of plutonium, albeit on a small scale, that will enable it to slowly expand its stockpile of nuclear bombs," he said.

Will the U.N. vote to attack? That’s how the first Korean War started, I recall.

Did you read the article?

‘Commercial satellite images taken in recent months had indicated preparations for restarting the reactor were progressing rapidly. In June,....”

Well before Oblama’s pathetic red line nonsense.

Quick someone send Obama a Magic 8 Ball so he can come up with a decision on how to deal with North Korea, or call Jimmah he’s had a lot off success with North Korea.

I have always wondered if BHO would ever snap under pressure and resign without getting Valarie Jarrett’s or Michelle’s approval.

I guess a malignant narcissist would never resign.

He will be clinging to the vestiges of office until hours after the very last minute.

Just like that creep Clinton did.

North Korea must need more money from Uncle Sugar.

That was my first thought, too, dfwgator, and this was the second: by the week end, lord high analysts of the New York Times and Washington Post will have discerned further proof of President You Didn't Build That's masterful handling of foreign policy by enticing Kim to the negotiating table.

This is just a case of a tall narcissistic IDIOT vs a short narcissistic IDIOT.

D Rodman becomes the ‘best ambassador’ we have - I am waiting for NK to kidnap Rodman and hold him for Ransom...truly a case of buying someone for what he is worth and selling him for what he THINKS he is worth.

Look for BO to start being ‘best bud’s’ with a 5’ N Korean ping pong player and try to rub it in Kim’s face..

This would really be comical if we didn’t have two complete lunatics with their fingers close to the ‘button’.

God Help Us....PLEASE....

Just to make a silly response...(Not if Assad and the North Koreans were working together! They could have just been waiting for Obama to flub his comments he made about the red line back last year!)

But in all seriousness, don’t you think its been rather obvious that our foreign policy has been in a tailspin for far longer than the recent events in June? I’m sure there are enough analysts in NK capable of figuring out the geopolitical calculus from the last couple of years.

You might notice my previous comments have made no reference to Syria. I had not intended to suggest a connection between the two. What makes you read my comment in that way?

Did you read what I said?

Why not? The Axis of Evil are having a field day with the Obama clown punching bag.

Every enemy of America and the West is on a high right now.

With Soviet, I mean Russian backing it's high-fives all around for the Evil forces on the planet right now.

Heck, if Darth Vader knew Obama was President right now, he'd invade Earth as well - there's nothing to stop him and even Star Trek’s Ricardo Montabon (The Wrath of Khan) should feel free to attack America right now.

If Obama would have been President on December 8th 1941, the Japanese would already have made serious inroads into the US West Coast and on there way to conquer the West.

All we need now is Obama to get out of a plane, waving a piece of paper claiming “Peace in our time”. Gee-es!

We should, with plausible deniability, arrange for a nuclear “accident” at that site.
