I’m generally all in for kicking Islamonazi butt.
But Syria, right now, is like the “perfect storm” of counterexample:

*** Wrong goals
*** Wrong assumptions
*** Wrong benefit to risk ratio
*** Wrong blowback likelihood
and, especially, as you point out:
