ABC/WaPost poll: Opposition to Striking Syria Advances With Nearly Two-Thirds Now Opposed

Nearly two-thirds of Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll oppose U.S. missile strikes against Syria, with momentum counter to the administration’s proposed military action. Support rises if Congress were to authorize an attack, but only to about an even split.

As things stand now, 64 percent oppose air strikes, up by 5 percentage points from a week ago; just 30 percent are in favor, down by 6 points. If Congress rejects action, support drops to 17 percent, with 76 percent opposed.

It’s a much closer call if Congress were to support air strikes, but even in this case the public divides essentially evenly on the issue, with 44 percent of Americans saying they’d favor air strikes, vs. 48 percent opposed.

It’s those pesky Russians. It is well known that “the best-laid plans of mice and men oft go astray”. Obama is getting that lesson in spades in Syria.

Message from Obama to al Qaeda in Syria and the Muslim Brotherhood: You are on your own. Best of luck.

Lol, good juxtaposition. The press may call this last minute deal an obomba victory, but it could well wind up worse than just bombing.

a vacuum in leadership is bad. once exposed, worse.

It doesn’t matter now. Obama will come out of this smelling like a rose. Give the media a couple of days and they will be advising us of how Obama got rid of the chemical weapons and kept us out of war.

My humble bet is that these numbers are skewed in favor of zero. NO ONE I have talked to thinks getting involved in Syria is a good idea. Not one.

You are probably right. But what surprised me was the movement away from support. kinda surprised they reported this point.

A vacuum in leadership would be a clear improvement over the current situation. There is a serious effort to misgovern this country, and misapply pressures in the international arena, with the express purpose of diminishing the US as a whole, and to thwart any settlement of the unrest in the Middle East.

There is “leadership”, all right. Only its name is NOT Barack Hussein Obama, but a shadowy oligarchy that is pulling the strings.

Dance, Clown Boy, dance. When the music stops, expect the strings to be cut and be swept from the stage.

Leading from behind seems to be working veritable miracles, doesn’t it?

You may be right, but they picked a real coward for a front man if that its true.

The puppet as you call him, may soon be swept from the stage. but i think it will be from contempt, as people discard a 2 year old cell phone.

Horseapples. What we have is a ‘majority’ of the population that ‘opposes’ another useless intervention like the average American is a Christian: they check a box on a poll and give not a care to it until next polltime.

I’ll believe there’s an anti-war majority when we have ANY protests of any real size in DC.
