Clinton: Syria relinquishing chemical weapons would be 'important step'
NBC News ^ | Sept 9, 2013 | By Michael O'Brien, Political Reporter, NBC News

If Syria were to surrender its chemical weapons to international control, it would be "an important step" toward avoiding military consequences, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Monday.

Following a meeting with President Barack Obama, Clinton suggested that the situation in Syria was "fluid," nodding to an offer by Russian diplomats to organize the handover of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's chemical weapons to an international governing body.

“If the regime immediately surrendered its stockpiles to international control, as was suggested by Secretary Kerry and the Russians, that would be an important step. But this cannot be another excuse for delay or obstruction, and Russia has to support the international community's efforts sincerely, or be held to account.”

Clinton further noted that the prospect of some sort of diplomatic breakthrough to avoid military intervention in Syria was the chief consequence of Obama’s threats of attack.

Clinton added: “it’s important to note that this discussion that has taken hold today about potential international control over Syria’s stockpiles only could take place in the context of a credible military threat by the United States to keep pressure on the Syrian government, as well as those supporting Syria, like Russia.”

Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton speaks about the situation in Syria after meeting with President Barack Obama, saying three points are at the heart of the decision on whether the US will proceed with a military strike.

Clinton’s words come amid an all-out push by the Obama administration to win congressional approval...

Clinton suggested that the situation in Syria was "fluid,"

The last time she classified a situation as "fluid", an Ambassador and three three other Americans were murdered in Benghazi.

And IF Assad were to fess up to receiving Saddam’s WMDs, it would leave a lot of egg on the faces of the so-called anti-war Left and the Russian conveyors.

You got to love the lack of love between the Clintons and the Big Zero.

Hillary is really shoving it to both Kerry and Obama.

You go girl!

Another interesting take on what is happening is...

Do you get the feeling that between Putin and Obama there is some slight of hand and it is the citizens of the U.S. that are being played on the issue of Syria?

Maybe I’m just cynical and paranoid.

This is a Russian trap. This is what I predict will happen. Syria will dither and then agree if the rebels turn in their chemical stockpile. AQ will respond by saying they take orders from Allah and not infidels (UN, US, Russia). Then deal falls apart and AQ rebels will take the blame. More months will go by. Congress may change vote and wonder why we are fighting for AQ with chem weapons.

Impeachment would be an even more vital step.

Wait, we won't even send military assistance to 4 Americans being attacked in Benghazi, but Clinton and Obama want to put the entire military at the disposal of Al Quada wannabes?

Ya think???

The Clintons have always been the masters of stating the obvious--which shows their deep disdain for the American public and their feeling of superior intelligence. I don't know whether to laugh or barf.

Because she needs to help get the Marxist Party’s base to support this three-ring circus. Also, she needs to come out of hiding and look “presidential” without too much political risk.

I don’t know.

I’m guessing the following “Letter from Putin” is satire, but in this world of power-hungry clowns you never know:

From Russia With Love- A Letter From Putin to All Americans

Excerpt:

A letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin to the American people has been circulating around the internet for the past couple of days. In the letter, Putin re-introduces Americans to some unpleasant facts about history and life they’d rather forget, such as Nixon’s reasoning behind massive carpet bombing of millions or North Vietnamese for the purpose of ‘looking good’ while exiting the war, and how Pakistan has been using the U.S. as a ‘false ally’ to gain foreign aid, while using the funds to embolden the Taliban in Afghanistan. He calls out Barrack Hussein Obama for having the audacity to meet with gay rights activists while he is in Russia next week, a group Putin despises, while refusing to carve away time to meet with him and solve the Syria issue. He compares the action to the equivalent of him (Putin) coming to the U.S. and meeting with Obama’s domestic enemy, the N.R.A.

Read the letter below for yourself, and decide whether President Putin is on spot or not:

How do I put this politely? You Americans are dumb. Today, Russia and America are fighting each other over fighting the Muslim radicals. Instead, we should be uniting to crush these violent Islamists, once and for all.

You Americans want to remove my ally, the Syrian leader Bashar Al-Assad. To borrow a phrase from your John F. Kennedy, Assad may be a son-of-a-bitch, but he’s my son-of-a-bitch.

So if you want to destroy him, what are you going to give me in return? If your answer is, “We will give you nothing,” well, why would I ever agree to that? That’s not negotiation, that’s dictation; it’s a return to the bad Yeltsin days, when Holy Mother Russia was pushed into the mud like a used whore.

Look, I’ll be the first to say that Obama’s “red line” comment was dumb. It’s obvious he hadn’t thought it through; one can see it in the words he used to express his policy. He said that the “red line” would be crossed if “a whole bunch” of chemical weapons were used. What kind of language is that? How does one quantify a “whole bunch”? This is the President of the High-and-Mighty United States, and he’s talking like a schoolboy? All for this silliness over sarin in Syria?

Do I think that Assad did it? Gassed those people? I don’t know; I’ve never asked him. He’s certainly capable of it, and yet only the Americans think that the case against Assad is a “slam dunk.” Everyone else agrees that the case is murky. Everyone else follows the first rule of intelligence-gathering: Consider the source–namely, the pro-rebel media. In this instance, the rebels were losing, and then they got “gassed”–and now Uncle Sam is rushing to their side. How convenient.

The Romans, who knew something about both imperialism and trickery, always asked, cui bono–who benefits? Well, the beneficiaries in this episode are the rebels–also known as Al Qaeda. Way to go, Americans!

At this point the cast of The View are a more credible source.

All day the “administration” has been unclear on WHAT the Secretary of State is proposing or not proposing.

And now, they’re not even clear on WHO the Secretary of State is.

This whole situation has gone from tragedy (the gruesome deaths of innocent civilians) to comedy (Obama leading a coalation of a subset of the coalation of the willing) to farce (John Kerry).
