Black Jobs Crisis: Could GOP Do Better?
The Root ^ | September 9, 2013

A recent negative jobs report for African Americans could provide an opening for Republicans.

After five years of nonstop bad news regarding black unemployment, the Obama administration was finally able to celebrate some good news last month, or so it seemed. In July African-American unemployment dipped to 12.6 percent, a small but significant change from June's 13.7 percent unemployment rate -- and substantially lower than the high of 16.5 percent that it reached in January 2010.

But any celebration was likely short-lived. While the national unemployment rate decreased slightly in August, to 7.3 percent, reaching a five-year low, that same month, African-American unemployment rose to 13 percent.

So at this point, who exactly is to blame for the seemingly unshakable epidemic of unemployment in the black community? Bob Woodson, a black conservative, generated headlines for his fiery speech at a Republican National Committee luncheon commemorating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. During his address he argued that when it comes to policy and progress, all other demographic groups have taken precedence over poor African Americans. Woodson said, "Everybody has come in front of them on the bus -- gays, immigrants, women, environmentalists. You never hear any talk about the conditions confronting poor blacks and poor people in general."

Though his language may have been more pointed, Woodson merely gave voice to a criticism levied specifically at the Obama administration by many black Americans -- namely that in the quest for re-election, President Barack Obama and his allies focused less on achieving solid policy deliverables to those demographics already most likely to vote for him and instead focused on delivering for those groups who needed more convincing.

Reinforcing the notion that the president prioritized the needs of other communities before those of the community that supported him the most

No, but they probably couldn’t do a worse job, even on purpose.

As long as our government pays people not to work, (and increases his welfare check for each baby he produces out of wedlock) we will never have full, or even close to full unemployment in this country.

The black community could do more for themselves than either the Democrats or the Republicans could do.

But, I'll make a few suggestions:

Anyone want to add some others? I'm trying to offer suggestions that would encourage an employer to take a risk on someone with no experience, with the hope they would develop into a good employee.

Conservatives would just create JOBS, not any particular color. ALL COLOR JOBS. That is if there is such a thing as a job color.

Why is the plight of unemployed blacks more important that the plight of other unemployed Americans? If blacks are equal, why do they always get favored treatment?

Could the GOP do any better?

ABSOLUTELY. If there were less regulations on business startups and less freebies enabling sloth, small local businesses could start up and even grow.

Competition from federally subsidized programs is another problem. Child day care, tutoring, feeding kids, unfair foreign trade and excess foreign labor take away jobs and innovation, especially from the neediest neighborhoods (where everything they need is handed to them)

After a generation of free education, only 5% passed the ACT.

The problems with black youth unemployment are cultural and systemic. Poor educations, lousy work ethic, and the impression that putting in an eight hour day of honest labor is “the white man thing”.

And absolutely nothing that anyone of another race can do about it, as the attempt would be perceived as “racist”.

BTW, the same destructive attitudes are permeating our “white trash” communities too.

Sure they could. Just by growing the economy and canceling obamacare. Everybody benefits when the economy grows and the restrictions and regulations are taken out of the equation.

Oh, a race to see who will give out more undeserved jobs to blacks! That sounds just like what I would want my political party of choice to be doing. Not!

Yea, how-a-bout stop blaming, assaulting, or killing white folk. Who wants to shop or do business with people who hate you and want to harm you?

Just sayin'...

I made the same comment in my opening sentence:

The black community could do more for themselves than either the Democrats or the Republicans could do.

But, I was offering suggestions for what Congress (Democrat or Republican) could do, as requested in the title of the article.

If we created the jobs, does anyone really think they’d coming running to fill them?

I’m not so sure.

I think they like where they are. Most are at home all day, living life at a leisurely pace. Why change? Only cutting the benefits completely OFF would effect anything.

There is NOTHING anyone can do (not even our wonderful GOP controlled Congress) for those in the black communities who have hatred in their hearts and a "I'm entitled attitude". Period.

The US has exceeded its carrying capacity for such. Now we're spiraling down to a much lower standard of living for all of us, due to our socialistic government policies. The outcome will be even less government assistance - not more. In the long run, government involvement always hurts those it intended to help.

There are lines that should never ever be crossed by a government. One in particular is taking from one group and giving to another group. Taxes should only be utilized for the good of all, and for such things as common defense, infrastructure, running government, and etc.

Charity should always be funded the kind hearts of religious, charity, and business groups, or personal donations. Our founders recognized the danger of government involvement in the old allegory about Free Corn.

The best thing that government could do in this case, would be nothing...

If the last black man on the face of the earth were looking for a job and couldn’t find one he would still vote for Obama.

Black Blood is thicker, well almost as thick as black brains.

True. Heard on Rush today that the unemployment rate for black, male, high school dropouts is 95%.

The GOP are moral cowards. They need to hone their first principles and bring the fight to urban blacks. They can win on crime, gun control, jobs, abortion, marriage, and vouchers for education.

In August, 2006 under a GOP President and Congress, black unemployment was 9.5 percent, and that was "its highest level since November 2005". So much for Democrat change.

Probably not, and here is why:

The root problem *for blacks* is not the lack of jobs, but the fact that decades of the family-destroying “Great Society” nightmare coupled with disproportionate rates of illegitimate births and abortions. And don’t even get me started on the education situation.

The best thing the GOP could do right now would be to smash the programs that reward sexual foolishness and sloth, and institute “project exile”-style programs for firearms all over the place. They can’t do driveby shootings with knives and a cop or citizen with a sidearm is well able to Treyvonize a punk with a switchblade.
