I am against a military strike in Syria.

However, the U.S. is a sovereign nation. We do not answer to the U.N. So what if they condemn our actions as being illegal under international law?

International law is valid only if the international community is willing to enforce it. What is the international community gonna do about it if we break their law? Nothing, that’s what.

Are they going to cut off diplomatic relations with us? No. Are they going to cut off trade with us? No. Are they going to go up against the most powerful military in the world? They might like to think so.
