SWAT did not just rush in once they got there. They tried to talk the old bastard out. And they tried to gas the old guy out.
You can not just leave some nut job with a gun because he is 107. What if he walks over to the neighbors house. Or has a rifle and starts picking off the kids on the sidewalk? Than all of you will be pissed that the Cops didn't do their jobs.

It seems surprising that it was necessary to shoot a 107 year old man. Did he have a criminal history? I haven't been able to find any information that indicated this. Most likely he was having some type of medical problem that impaired his judgment. This does not appear to have been a situation with a violent criminal who was likely to begin roaming the neighborhood shooting people.
It is most likely that what we had was a group of incompetent small town police who used poor judgment and tactics. Fortunately the police that I work with strive to handle situations in a calm way that deescalates a crisis situation with as little violence as possible. I hate to be an arm chair quarterback, but twenty five years of experience tells me that the situation could have been handled in a way where no one would have been seriously injured or killed.

At 107 maybe he didnt have his hearing aid in or batteries dead couldnt hear what the hell a swat team is yelling. they should have waited and as they already had a camara in the room just sit back and wait for nap time then bust in a take him.
