1958 was a bad year for the USAF. They got a little better in March of 1958 and actually managed to hit SC in the Mars Bluff area basically bombing the home of the Gregg family destroying it and a few chickens. At least the device wasn’t armed with nuclear materials the conventional explosives were in the device. The USGOV in their spirit of fair play offered 44K but eventually settled on 54K les lawyers fee’s. Eisenhower even allowed the Gregg family to sue the USG which is virtually unheard of.
