My sister God rest her soul went through a phase when my niece was about 6 and acting out. She would repeat instructions to her in a monotonal voice over and over until she complied. Or at least that was the theme of the technique.
As we were all sweating to death in a Florida parking lot one day my niece was dancing around refusing to get into the car and my sister was doing the monotonal repetitious instruction procedure with zero results. All of a sudden as if in a Vulcan mind meld myself and my other sister turned and screamed “get in the car”. My niece leaped in the car sat down and off we went. To this day she is a well respected adult with no emotional scars that I can discern.
So no, yelling is not the same as hitting. A good yell once in a while gets their attention.
Kids will now threaten to call CPS and tell them you yelled.
