It’s curious that Carter burned through the first six months of his presidency....attracted negative issues from other Democrats, and sat there for season two, three and four....never lifting the administration beyond a marginal status.
Unlike Democrats who continually criticized Carter in the third and fourth year....you just don’t find any big-name Democrats who will go public and criticize this administration. That’s the one difference.

I think the big difference is that the race card is thrown all the time and people with high public profiles are afraid of being labeled racist, especially liberals.
