NC:Police: woman hit in the head with a hammer during armed robbery

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating reports of an armed robbery that happened overnight. MOREAdditional Links

According to police, a woman was walking to her car near Old Eastwood Road, when a man she didn't know snuck up behind her and hit her in the head with a hammer.

Police said the suspect told the victim he had a gun, and a witness in the area started firing shots at the man.

No word on the condition of the woman. She is in the hospital.
