President Obama will carry out military action against Syria even if Congress votes against it, a senior State Department official tells Fox News’ Chief Washington Correspondent James Rosen.
Rosen’s notes concerning the White House’s reported intentions regarding the Syrian crisis were posted on Fox News colleague Greta Van Susteren’s Gretawire site late Saturday afternoon.
Rosen reports that “the president’s decision to seek a congressional debate and vote was a surprise to most if not all of” his national security team members. The state department official who communicated with Rosen added that Obama’s move to seek congressional approval “did not supplant the president’s earlier decision to use force in Syria, only delayed its implementation.”
“That’s going to happen, anyway,” the source told Rosen, which is why Obama’s Rose Garden remarks Saturday included his belief that he possesses the authority to launch strikes even without congressional authorization, Rosen adds.
The White House Saturday sent Congress a draft of a resolution authorizing Obama to use military force against Syria and laying out the administration’s claim that Assad’s regime killed more than 1,000 last week in a chemical weapons attack.
The resolution also says the objective of a U.S. military response would be to “deter, disrupt, prevent and degrade” the regime’s ability to use chemical weapons going forward.
The resolution authorizes Obama to use the military as he determines “necessary and appropriate” to serve that goal. The draft doesn’t lay out a timeline for action but does say only a political settlement can resolve the Syrian crisis.
When Obama said “my military” he revealed his true sentiments, and his agenda.
He proposal for unilateral action needs to be denied by the Congress, then when he goes forward with covering for his “red line” mistake, impeach him.

Something I've been asking as well. Seems someone had cold feet at the last - doubt it was Obama - most likely someone with much at risk, like SA. And we haven't heard Russia's counter offer to the energy co-op SA offered.
Maybe they're wanting to discuss the possibilities further at the G-20 this week - therefore the delay?

If Congress votes against the wishes of the 90%, our democracy is certifiably over. I just don't see Congress voting for war now, even though they have passed obamacare and other legislation against the majority of the people's wishes in the past.

Same - I know Israel is itching for a reason to take out Iran’s nuclear ambitions, but I don’t think going through Syria now is the answer. Our boy king has royally screwed all of us on this - we first need to follow the Saudi’s lead and turn on the Brotherhood. Then we build a collation against the real terrorists, the ones he has sided us with.
I’d be amazed if obama allowed anything harder than a hairball to drop on Syria.
You just know that someone will respond with a video showing tiny, bloodied, slain innocents. A new Palestinian Woman will be iconized.
America is hated by Assad and by his local enemies alike. Thus the chances of committing “atrocity!” by getting involved in this are about 100 percent.
That may be true anecdotally, but they absolutely have the power to impeach.
The rebels hate the USA just as much as Assad’s regime.
Whatever action Obama takes will be geared toward supporting the Muslim Brotherhood, and toward the destruction of Israel.
