Putin was part of a faction within the KGB which believed in pushing Russian Orthodoxy over atheism.
Not where I would go theologically but preferable to his predecessors or the current occupant of the White House.
... and in the meanwhile you have two more competing muslim groups intermeddling in Syrian affairs; the UN and the Obama White House!

I'll never respect Putin at all—I regard him as being as dull-witted as Nikolas II and half as scrupulous as Brezhnev—but to be fair, he's less stupid than President You Didn't Build That, and doesn't hate his native land.
