Verdict: Maj. Nidal Hasan sentenced to death for Fort Hood shooting rampage
WFAA TV (Dallas) ^ | 8/28/13 | JASON WHITELY

FORT HOOD – U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Hasan will be executed for the 2009 shooting rampage on post that left 13 people dead and more than 30 wounded.

The jury panel of 13 U.S. Army officers delivered the verdict on post moments before 2 p.m. Wednesday. They deliberated for less than three hours.

Last Friday, the same panel unanimously found Hasan guilty of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder for the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood.

This sentencing verdict ends the court martial after 17 days. In it, Hasan, who defended himself, never revealed a motive, did not present a defense and refused to cross-examine any of his victims.

Hasan will immediately lose his rank of major and he will stop getting paid in two weeks.

The Army will soon transfer him to the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. to begin serving his sentence.

But an execution is not imminent. Hasan automatically gets an appeal and it has been more than 50 years since the military executed anyone.

More to come.

Good. I hope it isn’t tied up with appeals.

Yea that would be good and he would not be given the option to wear a blindfold because he should see it coming.

"it has been more than 50 years since the military executed anyone."

It would seem the military just simply promotes them, given how the top brass have allowed so much time for Hasan to continue to steal oxygen.

Naw - shoot him from the cannon's mouth.

Peel his skin off and let him bleed to death in the hot Texas sun.

Having not served myself, I am only going off what others have stated. The issue is were they in a designated war zone (I can't remember the exact term).

And US military bases are strict gun-free zones. Stuff is under heavy lock and key. Only military and civilian police can legally carry.

Obama will commute sentence to life in 3...2...1... with chance of parole. Or - will pardon him.

I’m sure Obama is saddened by this news.

Good.

I just hope that he does not die of old age before the sentence is carried out.

His chair is waiting.

Say.....Hasan admitted he changed sides & committed mass murder while in uniform as a secret `soldier of Allah’, didn’t he?

That’s espionage AND treason right there, isn’t it!!!?

Anyway, this conviction should give standing to all the family members of the dead & wounded for an avalanche of wrongful death lawsuits against Hasan, and the military can now begin considering criminal negligence charges against his chain of command (but probably won’t).

The chain of command can still be sued, I would think.

I wonder if Obama is so stupid or arrogant as to publically refuse to sign the execution order (he probably is).

Imagine the type of pardons we’ll get from a lame duck Obama.

This administration has not put anyone they like in prison. They won't have anyone to pardon.

‘Bout time.

Is there anybody else in the history of the United States who has been given the death sentence for “workplace violence?”

Pay is stopped at the moment of conviction. The military pays every two weeks in arrears. So his final paycheck will be be the pay due up to the day of conviction.
