Recently went to a regional Christian music fest and I was amazed at all the Christians who had tattoos all over. Now not that there is anything wrong with a tattoo, and keeping in mind that perhaps people got saved after they got tattoos, but it struck me as yet another example of Christians yearning to fit in with the culture.
Back a while ago it was chic to speak of being a cultural relevant church or Christian. There was a lot of discussion about life-style evangelism. That was good, but I think people went overboard in their attempt to fit in and try to be culturally relevant.
Today the divorce rate among Christians is not that much different than non-Christians. Much of the behavior of Christians mirrors that of pop-culture. Church leaders sternly warned congregations not to be so strident so as to offend. Good advice, but many took this to mean, “shut up about sinful behavior”. Again, good advice, but if we become just like pop culture in our misplaced zeal to be “relevant” or non-judgemental, we are salt that has lost its saltiness, and hence we have indeed become trampled.

Especially youth pastors. Really, is that necessary to be reach out to youth? The Word should be powerful enough on its own and lived by your life as an example.
