The Church cried “Uncle” way back in the 1960’s when it meekly accepted the government telling Pastors they could not mix politics in their sermons or risk losing their tax exempt status. If they en masse would have told the government, “Go pound sand, we will preach anything that God leads us to preach from this pulpit.” they would be in a lot stronger shape today.
