Health insurance benefits for same-sex couples and domestic partners will soon be offered by the nation's largest retailer.

According to CNNMoney.com, Walmart sent workers a postcard this week informing them that domestic partners of U.S. employees will be eligible to receive benefits starting Jan. 1.

Domestic partners of opposite genders that have been in a committed relationship and living together for at least one year will also be covered under the upcoming changes, according to the article.

Workers will be able to enroll from Oct. 12 through Nov. 1.

It appears Walmart, the world's largest retailer, has chosen sides - giving in to the homosexual agenda.

They’re probably trying to get the unions off their backs by showing some “tolerance and diversity”. At least they’ll have this to hang their hat on next time they’re attacked.

It will be interesting to see how many folks this actually applies to. As WM is converting much of its non-mgmt workforce to “29ers” to avoid Obamacare.

And not married heterosexuals.
Since they had first asked for a waver, what changed.

“29ers or two-niners are mountain bikes that are built to use 700c or ISO 622 mm wheels. Most mountain bicycles use ISO 559 mm wheels which are commonly called 26” wheels. The ISO 622 mm wheel is typically also used for road-racing, trekking, cyclo-cross, touring and hybrid bicycles. ...”

Okay...I’m lost. What are 29ers?

Twenty-niners are anyone who’s younger than a boomer (1965 or younger) who get converted to part-time and lose their full time job so that the business isn’t on the hook for Obamacare.

“Okay...I’m lost. What are 29ers?”

Gold Miners with a premonition and went to California in 1829 is my guess.

29ers: Employees who work less than thirty hours per week and are therefore classified as part-time. They usually do not qualify for benefits.

I’ve dropped them already. Walmart needs to feel the pain.

Yet another reason not to shop at Wal-Mart (other than the Wal-martians.)

True. And the hassle that I have to go through to shop there makes paying $0.02 more for an item at a competitor well worth it.

Well, maybe my snooty lib relatives who have never liked Walmart will now shop there, “because they are now so enlightened.”

What sucks is how WM has moved in and shut down local stores and smaller chains... eliminating competition (and shopping options) for many of us, particularly in more rural areas.

Truer than you realize. Where I live Kroger supermarkets have beat up Walmart pretty badly when it comes to groceries.

We used to price shop.. now, we just go to Kroger's. They are lower 75 to 80% of the time and have more specials/coupons.

I have a friend who is a night manager at a nearby Walmart Super Center and he also verifies what I'm telling you.

Under the Obamacare law, employers are only required to provide (expensive mandated) healthcare benefits to “full time” employees which are defined as ones working 30 hrs/week or more.

There is a big push in a lot of industries to convert employees to this part time category, and they are termed “29ers” .

But only the 10 remaining employees with full time jobs at Walmart are eligible:
