Reading your post all I can think of is the cooking that must have come out of that kitchen. Sigh

The older folks are all gone, now. We still have the recipes, although they have been tweaked a lot in the intervening time.
Not all the old recipes are worth saving, to be honest. My husband and BIL still laugh about packing their wheel bearings with their Norwegian Grandma’s sandbakkles. And the nahit (chickpeas sauteed in chicken fat) of my Russian Jewish ancestors would sit in your stomach like lead for at least a day and a half.
But nothing from a chicken escaped being cooked, that’s for sure.
