Juba, South Sudan — August 24, 2013 (SSN) … More than 18,000 people with over 1,000 households in South Sudan have been directly affected and others displaced from their homes by devastating floods that ravaged the Maiwut County in South Sudan’s Upper Nile State.

Over 48 people have been killed with severe damage to public buildings, including schools, clinics, offices, shops, markets and water and sanitation facilities. Roads in South Sudan have been inundated, disrupting transport.

According to County authorities people are deeply suffering and lacking basic essentials. Women and children have mostly been displaced due to flooded homes.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the medical NGO, says about 90,000 people are still missing.

Many are still taking shelter at higher grounds and others remain in the open without any food or shelter and no proper medication as water born diseases increases with prevalence of increasing malaria cases where three have already lost their lives.

South Sudan’s Government is stepping in to provide emergency assistance to the flooded areas but the resources of the country are limited due to the economic Jihad waged against this new democratic state by its Islamist northern neighbor, Sudan.

South Sudan’s Government is calling on Humanitarian Organizations to step in and provide assistance immediately to avoid an escalation of malnutrition and diseases.

The floods have been the worst one in two decades and people fear more rains from across the neighboring Ethiopian highlands.

UN agencies led by OCHA and United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNIMSS) have already conducted a brief assessment mission in the area and explained that immediate assistance such as food, cover sheets and medicines and will be provided to the displaced people.

Perhaps if they hadn’t spent the last millennium killing each other with machetes and instead focused on modernizing their little corner of the world they wouldn’t have this problem.

No, I don’t have much interest in helping people who won’t help themselves.

I thought South Sudan broke off from Sudan in order to stave off encroaching Islam, and preserve the chastity of their goats. Maybe we should airdrop some supplies...

Manila - An estimated 600 000 people in the Philippines remained at temporary shelters or with relatives on Friday after days of heavy rain that killed 20, officials said.

A day after floods ebbed in the capital Manila, stagnant pools of water and high tides in coastal areas prolonged the misery in the central Luzon plains to the north, civil defence official Josefina Timoteo told AFP.

“These are mainly farmers and fisher folk who still cannot return to their homes or resume work. We are still supplying their needs,” said Timoteo, the civil defence chief for the region. ... http://www.news24.com/World/News/600-000-displaced-after-Philippines-floods-20130823

Yes, you are correct!
Christian South Sudan is presently fight off Islamic Jihad from Sudan in the north. Iran is supplying Sudan and seeking a base in Africa. We are witnessing Christians in democratic South Sudan trying to defend themselves today from an economic Jihad from a Sudan which is cutting off oil to this new nation.

Where is Obama?
He gives advice but no action.
These good and very desperate Christians need food and guns from the West.

"Perhaps if they hadn’t spent the last millennium killing each other with machetes and instead focused on modernizing their little corner of the world they wouldn’t have this problem."

You are mixed up. That characterization has nothing to do with South Sudan. This is a Christian nation founded 2 years ago, after they won a brutal independence from the rabidly muslim Sudan -- no thanks to the Obama administration.

The South Sudanese are remarkably fine and outstanding Christians.

http://www.waterforsouthsudan.org/. I don’t know if this group will help with relief efforts, but I do know they are a Christian organization that raises money to help drill water wells in the area.

Sorry Sudan......our Pentagon cannot even make payroll this year. The US military won't be saving your bacon this year, because Sequestration robbed it of O&M funds so that our Entitlement machine can keep on cranking out the Freebies for the Takers.

But if you want to break into our country illegally, the Great Obama will give you Food Stamps, Section 8 Housing, Medicaid, ObamaCare, AFDC Welfare, General Assistance Cash, Energy Assistance, EITC Tax refunds (and you don't even have to pay taxes!), SCHiP, WIC, Minority Job Assistance Minority Summer Jobs, Special Milk Program cash giveaways, Needy Families cash giveaways, African-American Jobs Program, Low Income Energy and Utilities Assistance, Migrant Education, Social Security Disability, TANF Child Care, and Family Planning (free abortions).

Just remember to line up early for all the Section 8 Housing vouchers. Those are like gold.
