Few blighted buildings will be razed...municipal pension liabilities will be funded.

It’s the Chicago way.

“The letters say that they depend on the pensions promised to them, that they turned down higher-paying job offers in the past because of the benefits, and that they rely on the pensions to meet their obligations.”
Having worked with a peu for years and knowing what I know about most gov’t workers, I have to laugh at the “turning down higher-paying jobs” bit. Janitors and cafeteria workers with no other skills making more wages and benefits than some college educated private workers.

This *is* what Detroit needs to do, although the money probably won’t end up where it is supposed to....this is Detroit :(

Well, it’s certainly hard to argue with the notion that bulldozing Detroit isn’t a good thing.

When Coleman Young became the first black mayor of Detroit, he instituted a policy that no white person could open a business within the Detroit city limits. Guess what? Whites took their businesses elsewhere, mostly surrounding the Detroit suburbs. Hence, the fix was in and the blight began.

He served as mayor for five terms. So, five terms of no new businesses also meant at least 5 to 50 people were not hired per business.

It is high time we blame who was really responsible for the beginning of the decay.

Looks like there will be outside oversight of the money this time.

The city receives about $290 million annually in 71 different grants — from community development block grants to Justice Department funding for police. Nowling noted the city at various times has misspent grant funding or been out of compliance with grant requirements. The group also would help ensure the city is in compliance with all grant requirements.

Orr to name group to oversee grants as Detroit gears up for more fed funds

Apparently its grant season. I see Lansing is getting some $3 million for "revitalization". I suspect that a little research would show several hundred million going out to cities all across the country.

He gave way more money to the Muslim Brotherhood.

In either case, its money down the drain.
