City Councilmembers and advocates announced a plan today to slap a 10 cent charge on all plastic and paper carry-out bags at grocery and retail stores across New York City.
Customers would be required to bring their own bags or pay the fee, which stores would get to pocket, according to the proposed legislation, unveiled this afternoon at City Hall.

Representatives of the Democratic [sic] party have never seen a tax proposal they didn’t like.
This is already in place here in Oakland and SF. This is pretty low on the list of things to get upset about, IMHO of course.
It’s just helping the redistributioners hone their craft.
Reusable bags carry every kind of germ. Watch the death rate go up on the elderly and sickness on the young and “healthy”
God knows how many roaches, roach eggs, bed bugs and other vermin will be broad into and out of those grocery stories; do no mention the number of 5 cent deposit bottles that are returned with layers of silverfish and roaches; not to mention the scabby covered citizens............the list is endless.
New York, New York......... its crappy town.
I thought we had to have plastic bags because using paper bags required cutting down too many trees. I have seen some of these “bring your own bags” and they appear to be made of some type of plastic. Wish they would make up their mind. Just call me confused.
