Just months after the Exploratorium opened its expanded new facility on the San Francisco waterfront, the science museum announced staff cuts Friday because of attendance figures falling short of projections.
There were tears from some upset workers amid the science exhibits at Pier 15. Four months into its new location, best laid plans at San Francisco's Exploratorium are going up in smoke.
"People are angry, upset, crying," said Exploratorium exhibit tech Earl Stirling.
The science museum yesterday notified 80 workers they are being laid off. That accounts for nearly 20 percent of the total staff.

It's one reason I think. I've personally avoided S.F. for years. But I think Obama's policies are the most important reason. High unemployment, inflationary food costs and gas at $4+ a gallon isn't the best way to stimulate tourism.

I went about 20 years ago, and can’t imagine how it would need that many employees. Atlanta had a similar thing for about a decade that went under completely.

It's mostly real science by demonstration rather than lecture, and presented in a way that children engage, but they do have a leftist bias, and present "consensus" on AGW climate change as proved fact.

Remember, they are competing with the Tech Museum, as well. Kids in the East Bay and South Bay go there. Lots of fun.
with 400 employees? Really? It must cost $40 for admission.
