Rust and Diamonds: Jane Doesn’t Do Nancy Any Justice At All
Breitbart Big Hollywood ^ | 8-15-13 | Craig Shirley

It would have been too much to ask for Hollywood to give the Reagans their due in the forthcoming movie “The Butler.” You knew that going in. But either way, casting Jane Fonda in the role of Nancy Reagan was surely meant to push buttons, stir up controversy and generate interest in--and hence, profits for--the movie.

This being the reality, let me then push some other buttons.

The problem with casting Jane Fonda as former First Lady Nancy Reagan is not just that Fonda is nearly twenty years older right now than Mrs. Reagan was when she entered the White House in January of 1981, or that Fonda is at best a mediocre actress and that Nancy Davis was probably a better actress in her day.

Or that the best thing about Jane Fonda the actress is her last name, or that in the looks department, Nancy Reagan had, and probably will always have, Fonda beat hands down.

The problem goes far deeper than appearances. The very day Ronald Reagan was elected president in 1980, Jane Fonda was quoted as saying he was “a lousy actor and he’ll make a lousy president.” Reagan reciprocated the minimal respect.

Indeed, one would be hard pressed to think that Reagan would have approved of the casting of Fonda as his wife--since in a letter he wrote to William F. Buckley during his presidency, he called Fonda and her then-second husband, Tom Hayden, “traitors to their country.”

“”The problem with casting Jane Fonda as former First Lady Nancy Reagan is not just that Fonda is nearly twenty years older right now than Mrs. Reagan was when she entered the White.””

I believe the author needs to redo the math. Nancy Reagan was born in 1921. Nancy Reagan was 60 years old when she entered the WH in 1981.

Is Jane Fonda really 80 years old now?

She’s 76, so 16 years older.

I’d say the “20 years older” was button pushing, as he said.

DoB 12/21/37, so it’s 75 years of age.

If they used Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan to “stir up interest” in the movie, it didn’t work. (At least not for me.)

Totally unrelated except for the obvious political comparisons between Jane Fonda and Joan Baez. Both are huge Libs. But a great song nevertheless.

“Your actions only align you with the most narrow and negative elements in our country who continue to believe that Communism is worse than death.”

Really, Jane? What or who compelled the S. Vietnamese to flee in the tens of thousands?

How about this:

For years, the US bombed the living s^%$ out of the North and it was the most pervasive, destructive and incredibly relentless campaign of carpet bombing the world had ever seen to date.

Vietnamese sat still for all those years and under all that bombing! They did so with the hope and belief that it would in the end, render them free in their own country. They would endure it against the most unbelieveable pain, destruction, loss and hardships.

Again, WHAT or WHO caused these very determined and courageous people to leave their country after ALL this?

When we left, and it was certain that Communists were on the way... they made for the coast in the tens of thousands and into the most unseaworty boats, out into the S. China Sea with nothing but their hope and courage...

These people bugged-out... the same people who sat still for years of privation, death, fear, terror and wholesale carpet bombing ... but wouldn’t for one instant remain with the thought of a Communist government.... !!

THAT'S why they left, Jane, and THAT tells you all you need to know about Communism! (Just incase youare TOO stupid to figure it out for yourself.)

Bump that. Having JF play Nancy Reagan is beyond insulting and is just short of a declaration of war.

If Fonda had any sense of decorum whatsoever, she would never have accepted this role. She proves that even with age and the wisdom it usually gives, she is classless.

Don’t spend a dime at this film, FReepers. Don’t pay them to tear down good people.

No I do not watch anything Orca makes or where JF stars in.

I rather pay to watch a toilet flush.

As a VN vet I can't tell you how much I despise both women.
But what's worse is that I hate myself for loving Baez do that song.
Fonda is beyond redemption.

Not to worry, I haven't been to a movie in over 20 years. Will probably never see the inside of theater again as long as I live.

It’s another in your face thing from leftist, just like the Twin Towers mosque, the first muslim elected to Congress, elison, using Thomas jefferson’s copy of the koran to be sworn in with, and the planned 911 million muslim march on Washington. It’s a given the muslims will have their millon count from the media, they tried to get away with a 70,000 count for the Tea Party March.
