Rubio: Obama will ‘basically legalize’ 11 million by executive order if immigration reform fails

Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio warned Tuesday that some on the Republican side of immigration reform could come up empty-handed if the Senate’s “Gang of Eight” plan fails.

In an appearance on WFLA’s “The Morning Show with Preston Scott” in Tallahassee, Fla., Rubio explained that President Barack Obama will be tempted to enact his own immigration reform measures by executive order if Congress does not pass an immigration bill. An Obama executive order would legalize 11 million undocumented immigrants, he said.

“I have been saying now for over a year I believe that this president tempted, will be tempted, if nothing happens in Congress he will be tempted, to issue an executive order like he did for the DREAM Act kids a year ago, where he basically legalizes 11 million people by the sign of a pen,” Rubio said. “We won’t get an E-Verify, we won’t get any border security — but he’ll legalize them. So what I have tried to do is come up with as best as possible, given who controls the Senate, a way to start this conversation to at least address some of these issues because it only gets worse as times goes on.”

Show me where in the Constitution it's the function of the Executive branch to ensure "fairness" and I'll agree with you

. . to faithfully execute the laws . . .

I believe their argument would be that he (or anyone serving as president)would be in violation of their oath (or affirmation) with regards to the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution.

Just stand by everyone - the SC just may get behind Obama on this - after the Obamacare ruling, would anyone be surprised? Didn't he already grant amnesty to 150,000 illegals before the 2012 election? - with nary a peep from the gelded republican ruling class in DC.

Didn't Lincoln set precedent with the Emanciptation Proclamation?

Uh no. The Union was at war with the Confederacy, and the Emancipation Proclamation only applied on Confederate territory. It only applied to the ten states that were in rebellion, and did not free all slaves.

Slavery as an institution was not officially abolished until the passage of the 13th Amendment in 1865, two years after the EP.

No, not the media, the voters who will be outraged by the results of the amnesty.

Congress can just go home.

We have a Dictatorship, where Congress is un-necessary, and NO ONE challenges The Messiah because of NSA Surveillance Wiretaps, Blackmail (like John Roberts), and State-Run-Media attacks on them if they object in "just going along".

We have NO Government representation for We The People, we have a Court System that enforces and expands the Law ONLY in furtherance of The Agenda, and Executive Orders are illegally used to make Laws, along with Executive Branch Regulatory Agencies (un-Elected) making Laws via Rules to further The Agenda, also.

Amnesty is a done-deal, however it's implemented, to get 10 Million more Agenda Voters by 2014.

Yes, the details . . I suspect that when the rivals appear on the 24 hour cable news shows, there won't be to much talk of the details - only the "grand vision of the idea" and how "we MUST do this now!!"

The republicrat followers of Obama in the House and Senate will lead the charge right over the cliff and any unintended consequences (if they're bad) will be laid squarely at the feet of the GOP

“Faithfully execute the laws” != “Ensure there are no second-class citizens.” That’s twisting the document. Roberts’ Obastardcare ruling showed me the government will twist any clause in the Constitution to fit the desired outcome. DC is lawless.

It hasn’t mattered what’s in the Constitution for some time, and if we don’t get back to it we’re doomed as a Nation.

HEY RUBIO... GIGS UP... YOU ARE HISTORY... AND LET OBAMA DECREE IMPERIAL COMMANDS... WE WILL TAKE IT TO COURT. YOU JUST WANT THE CREDIT FOR ALLOWING INVADING ENEMIES INTO AMERICA BECAUSE YOU YOURSELF ARE AN ENEMY TO ALL GOOD IN AMERICA.

These establishment types just can’t get through the day with a dozen rationalizations, justifications and excuses to parse, defend and explain their own idiocy.

Since Rubio’s plan for those 11 million illegals differs only in details from Obama’s, I fail to see what he’s getting all worked up about, other than beating his Democratic comrades in arms on the issue to the punch.

Rubio’s just trying to rehabilitate his image with conservatives so he can run for higher office in the future. I hate panderers, especially when they think they can pander to me.

Rubio is getting worse the longer he stays in Washington. But do FL people know that?

Lincoln’s little proclamation did not even apply to his native KY, where he was then reviled. Wonder if McC and Paul know that.

Basically, Rubio is trying to prove that he represents a sane "middle ground" between Obama's amnesty and "extremists" who oppose a "path to citizenship." Trying to highlight the alleged differences between his proposal and Obama's is just a ruse to hide the fact that Rubio and Obama differ in rhetoric, not substance, and that there is no "middle ground" on the issue: either you favor amnesty, or you support enforcing existing immigration laws. Period.

I know what you mean though about pandering and rehabilitation. A lot of people on this site are sold on Sarah Palin's newly minted opposition to amnesty, conveniently forgetting and forgiving the fact that she was all for it as McCain's running mate 4 years ago.

I’ve changed my tune: deport all illegals AND these limp congressmorons. Didn’t these ED sufferers take an oath to protect us from enemies? They are our enemies.

I do believe if he was that bold that would get a reaction, finally.

Will that finally give us peons ‘standing’ to sue the Executive Branch to ENFORCE THE LAW(s), as they are obligated?

Sure as sh!t appears to be the only way since Congress and the Courts sure aren’t doing their parts either
