Obama, a sports fan who seems to relish every chance to encounter star athletes, will welcome the undefeated 1972 Super Bowl Champion Miami Dolphins to the White House on Aug. 20.
It will be the first White House ceremony honoring their historic season.
The ceremony no doubt will draw a crowd of South Florida fans, including members of Congress. Everyone likes to be associated with a winner.

One reporterette even said the 1972 Dolphins were not honored by Nixon because he was involved in the "Watergate scandal"....
I wanted to hurl an ashtray through the TV...first of all, I sincerely doubt the child knew WHAT the "Watergate scandal" involved....second, this implies the Clown currently occupying the Oval Office IS NOT WRAPPED UP IN SCANDALS.....
Frankly, I hope the Dolphins give him the cold shoulder, but they probably won't....the OWNER of the Dolphins is really pissed off at the REPUBLICAN legislature in Florida that refused to authorize a taxpayer-funded stadium for the billionaire.
Nixon was a Redskins fan, and the Dolphins defeated the Redskins in that Superbowl.
Both teams were my picks to go to the Superbowl, and I was a Dolphins fan, so I really enjoyed that year in football. Thew Redskins were a team of veterans who hit hard and created opportunities. The Dolphins were a team that made few mistakes, and executed to near perfection. What a year for football.
As for the photo-op, forget it. Obama had nothing to to with it, although I wouldn’t put it past him to claim credit for the perfect season.
A good reason to hope the Redskins win it all this season.
Will put Barry in a VERY uncomfortable position of having to decide between the tradition of a White House ceremony and cheesing-off the PC Team Name Police.
“Obama, a sports fan...”
Jock sniffer
As far as I am concerned any Dolphin that shows up is a pos.
Big time....and the media in Miami are Obama sniffers.
Well there was this.
I wonder, how many ‘72 Dolphins players will decline the invite?
I wonder, how many 72 Dolphins players will decline the invite?
Hard to say, but as a fan, I would decline the invite...then I'm sure, I would be audited by the IRS.

Yeah, that was a big mistake in an otherwise perfect game.
Dolphins would have had the only shutout in SB history if not for that.
At least three 72 Dolphins refuse White House invite
Double entendre.
