one time, in the DC outskirts, I actually stopped to help someone in what appeared to be a car accident and a group of four jumped out of the second vehicle and tried to hijack my car.
Another time, I gave someone money (she had dirty children but they all appeared to be well fed) and then she and her kids called me names after I gave her the fiveski and she jumped in a car and her man called me a sucker.
Then one time I was at a stoplight, got surrounded by thugs after a kid walked up to me asking for money for his school and he danced around as they tried to shake me down for my wallet. It only stopped because someone yelled “five-oh”.
You don’t ever allow yourself to fall into that trap of emotional reaction.
