I’m not familiar with cell phone cameras; the width of the palm at the thumb level is extremely wide compared to the top, but you could be right. I made my hand in the same position and looked at it to see if it fattened near the wrist but it didn’t.

Yes. Your brain will process out the image distortion, unlike a camera it compensates for distance. Take a picture and see.
