It was amusing that the actor that played Aragorn was very unhappy with GW Bush, but ended up playing him in the movie.
The Mordor Orcs would be Turks if Minas Tirith was inspired by Vienna or Constantinople. Note some Christians were allied to the Turks.
(Perhaps Constantinople was better represented by Minas Ithil an old city that had already been taken and corrupted.)
