The remark that “...we must do immigration reform...” has always puzzled me. Why must we do anything at all? Isn’t the law already in place? Shouldn’t we close the border? Must we give amnesty? Why do those who have broken in deserve to stay?

Excellent point. Doing nothing is always an option. We certainly wouldn't be any worse off than we are now. Why "must" we do something on this?
