Middle East peace talks could "collapse" due to continuing Israeli settlement expansion, a senior Palestinian Authority (PA) official warned Tuesday, on the eve of the scheduled resumption of the fragile process.
"Settlement expansion goes against the U.S. administration's pledges and threatens to cause the negotiations' collapse," Yasser Abed Rabbo told AFP.
The comments came after Israeli authorities approved the construction of a total of more than 2,000 homes in Jerusalem and the Biblical Jewish heartland of Judea and Samaria, in the days leading up to Wednesday's scheduled new round of direct talks between the Israel and the PA.

And what business does the US have unilaterally pledging to stop Israelis from building new houses? Talks should collapse over that alone.
Talks might collapse? And new houses will be built? Win/win.
‘zackly.
It’s always gonna be something with these ragheads.
What talks? The PA has refused to directly negotiate with Israel for several years now. They just sit and let the US pressure Israel to make unilateral concessions - which is exactly what Obama does. Why should they negotiate in that environment?

There’s no politicial consensus in the Arab world for real peace with Israel—only for convenient hudnas here and there.
Of course. The important thing for the left is that they blame it on the right, and continue to pretend that but for these houses the talks would have lead to a lasting piece, and then push to try again, whereupon they’ll find some other pretext to blame the right for the failure of the talks.
